And so ends my Year of Ftae, which was actually closer to 18 months. I know many prolific authors forget what they said about a character age etc from one volume of a series to the next. Mullins couldn’t have been alive when Mary was killed. I think, on the whole, that this was a case where I preferred that TV version with Joan Hickson the more recent adaptation with Geraldine McEwan was utterly bonkers however.

I may need to top myself up with say A Murder is Announced which just happens to be on the TBR just to get refreshed on top notch Christie …. So sad — and even though you are grateful for the remnants that remain, they also remind you of what has been lost too.

Other books in the series. It is beautifully done, retains all the eccentricities of the plot but is a comic tour de force.
Postern of Fate has been criticized as of lower quality than the bulk of Christie’s output. It would seem that despite the passage of time, there may still be those trying to keep the events surrounding the decades-old murder a secret ….
They’ll always be my favourite married sleuths. Christie frequently used familiar settings for her stories. Although, sometimes it happened later, or earlier. And it is certainly very sobering to realise that those fears of the 20s, 40, and 50s just seem to keep being re-shaped. We learn that Tuppence and Tommy’s twin daughter Deborah is now mother of twins herself, that the adopted daughter Betty lives in Kenya and that the wife of Albert, the loyal valet, has recently died.
The last novel Agatha Christie wrote publishedand it can best be described as out-of-focus. However, Agatha was preoccupied with navel-gazing and recollections of childhood, and the central mystery only occasionally interrupts these endless remembrances.
She based at least two of her stories on the hall: I simply have great admiration for this author. What really confuses me is that the age of this mystery is continually stressed, and our detectives are even led to visit an old people’s home for clues.
If you can possibly imagine these books as being part of a continuum of a writing career that spanned fifty years instead of just as something that ‘ought to be as poztern as her best stuff,’ this book will hold interest – it is a fascinating glimpse into the way the human mind eventually weakens with age, for one. Or argue with a tradesman. Apparently the main Mary Jordan business happened shortly before WWI, but people in their 80s and 90s talk about it being in their own grandparent’s time.
For this reason Tuppence must figure out where they were and drags Tommy into it.

In this book, published inthey are “over seventy” chhristie the war happened “before their time. That sounds frightfully rude, and I do not mean it to be so, but there you are. Passenger to Frankfurt is one of the few Christies I know nothing about, beyond its reputation. Now in their seventies though the author never states their age clearlyTommy and Tuppence move to a quiet English village, looking forward to a peaceful retirement.
Not that I don’t enjoy a good conspiracy story, but not if it is told in chgistie a rambling manner, without a logical train of thought, and, of course, not when it is anywhere near as chrstie as or even reminding me of Passenger to Frankfurt. I couldn’t even make that chrkstie This may also be an attempt on her life. Well, if you want to get technical, and it depends how you count, she didn;t necessarily write more than the great JDC. The presence of Hannibal the dog really makes me wish that Christie had written an animal story at some point.
What confuses me terribly though, is the timeline.

I understand that this is the last book written by her, just before her death. Very wise my friend.
I don’t really recommend this, but AC completists may be interested. But she gets her chronology all mixed up. Looked after children — a kind of nurse. The book features her detectives Tommy and Tuppence Beresford and is the detectives’ last appearance.
It’s impossible to tell who was meant to be alive when or how old they were. Refresh and try again.
Wednesday, 22 December Postern christir Fate Very comfortable life, a tortoise has. The autobiographical elements are what make it fascinating, I quite agree, and it is that sense of the bric-a-brac from one own childhood being made tangible and re-purposed that makes this so interesting a read.
