Well thank goodness, I loved the first book. A best bet read! I will undoubtedly be reading more of the series in the very near future: This Pen For Hire. But still, it wasn’t that bad.

I think part of the reason why I enjoy the dynamic between Ramirez and Maddie is because Halliday is so good at creating anticipation between the two of them.

The Detective was terrific. Instead of describing what life is like for Angelenos, it described what someone who doesn’t live in the Greater Los Angeles Area thinks living there is like. She worked as a film and television actress, a teddy bear importer, a department store administrator, a preschool teacher, a temporary tattoo artist, and a number psychic, before finally selling her first book, Spying in High Heels, in and deciding to be a writer.
Maddy is just too much of a ditz who, in stumbling along from accidental clue to accidental clue, seems to fulfill every dumb blonde stereotype in existence.
But, in my opinion, it added to the hilarity of the story.

Love Me if You Dare. But as she arrives at her boyfriends place of work late for lunch she sees him with someone else and he cancels lunch. The little information I do have from my gemmx there made it a little disconcerting. Aw I loved this!! The beginning of the story didn’t really catch me and the main character, although quite a unique and clearly that character’s voice, was getting on my nerves but as the story progressed and got more complicated, I found myself wanting to read on and find out the truth of the case.

This book included a detailed description of EVERY drive across town in nauseating detail–then I pulled into the right lane and exited onto the hoping it wouldn’t be filled with the usual Valley traffic.
Between herself and Dana, her best friend, they are continually in hot water. The characters are all different and quirky. As Maddie investigates, she gets into loads of interesting and hilarious predicaments. Sadly, none ever came and my suspect ended up being the killer.

I did quite enjoy the budding relationship with Ramirez. It’s nice to see someone featuring a Latino character who’s NOT a gang member, former gang member, or janitor. However, once he reveals to Maddie that her boyfriend is married, I would have preferred Maddie to cut her losses.
