Those essays that actually delve into Atwood as a writer were the ones that I enjoyed most – Writing Utopia for example partly addresses her writing process of The Handmaid’s Tale and included thought-provoking ideas about the nature of dystopias – how dystopias are easier to believe due to us having experienced nightmares already, while an extreme utopia is only gonna turn into Now I know she is a Canadian who in her photo, bears a striking resemblance to Isak Dinesen as portrayed by Meryl Streep, is a feminist with the requisite feminist-as-writer issues, which I could not care a whit for.


This came at a perfect time for me, and so it may have influenced how well the book went down, but I think in fact it’s just good, solid writing on a range of topics that are interesting to anybody who likes Atwood feminism, writing, even gardening.
