tntra Enjoyed it for its clarity. It’s too bad that the word “tantra” carries so much baggage. This was an interesting book on Buddhist Tantra, but I was a little lost by the end. It describes the differences between the two basic teachings of sutra and tantra, the basic preparation steps before starting the actual tantra practice.
Might just turn you inside-out, in a lovely way. Deity-yoga is envisioning oneself as a deity so tantga to take on said deity’s attributes, and guru-yoga is leaning upon another faulty human being, a guru, and essentially worshipping this person as another deity as you attempt to mesh both the deity and guru with your own inner guru.
It spends more time in defense of tantra saying what tantra is NOT, rather than spending time telling us what the hell tantra IS. In the buddhist tantric tradition the source of this inspiration is the guru lama in Tibetan: Feb 03, Charles rated it liked it.
Ultimately, Lama Yeshe actually states ‘We won’t get anywhere if we try to learn from a book, hoping to figure things out ourselves,’ and that ‘guru-yoga is the root of the tantric path. They yewhe that the longer it takes them to achieve enlightenment, lamx longer everyone who needs help will have to wait. What we have to understand is that Avalokiteshvara and Jesus, for example, are exactly the same; the essential nature of each is complete selfless devotion in the service of others.
Who is qualified to practice it? This is the rantra trick that has worked on so many people for so many cults and religions for centuries. This lovely introductioh made me look at the world differently, which a book can and should do.
I’ve been reading a lot of Lama Yeshe lately; currently he’s my favorite guru. A genuine generation of Boddhicitta is attained only when, through the training of the mind, the aspiration to attain full enlightenment becomes spontaneous and no longer requires any deliberate introdjction. I wish I could pull that off.

I found this to be too much like a textbook. Ultimately, the book sounds like more of a sales pitch than anything, constantly boasting of all the amazing things that will happen if you follow what they say, constantly reminding you to suppress your critical thought while also claiming to be something that is “scientific”, that you teshe try the techniques out for yourself.
We have to realise that our low opinion of ourselves, which keeps us trapped in rantra cycle of perpetual dissatisfaction, only arises because we are ignorant of our basic, essentially pure nature.
