The story was not that amulyaa. I borrow them myself, from the library: I have several more Malladi books on my shelf and reading this one means I’ll be reading the others sooner than I’d planned. LOL I think the most important factor that is taken away in this story is about forgiveness. Anjali begins her new life and continues to show herself as a woman who is independent and has strength. That night in the poisonous city, changed her life in more ways than one, and as she later came to realize, in ways that would affect her lifelong. How she makes peace with herself and with her parents who have never approved of either her divorce or her second husband, how she reconciles her dual roles as a working mother and wife and how a single event changes thousands of people forever are the themes explored in this book.


Anjali is happily married to Sandeep and has a son, Amer, who is critically ill. After living in Denmark for 14 years, Amulya moved to California in and lives in Orange County with her husband and two sons. Sandeep is a professor who has no plans on marrying. The suffering she witnessed and experienced that night left her with lingering physical and emotional wounds, and while Anjali survived, her marriage did not.
