First, up front, I did not use rosin core solder. Charge up to 5 batteries at once mod I thought you guys might be interested in a different type of mod I posted.
Connect diode Anode to 4th battery positive.
I ended up getting this fixed up the right way. I picked this up from frys a while back. I thought you guys might be interested in a different type of mod I posted. When I put a battery in the charger it seems to work just fine. I found the issue.

Not a ton of power but if you still run this on batteries the resistor will unnecessarily waste battery energy, regardless of how small. Do not exceed 4. I opted to splice the wires instead of soldering directly to the board since I am not that confident in my soldering skills. That should give me what i need to know.
