And for what it’s worth, I’d say that last line contains more wisdom and nobility than the entire published output of Emil Cioran. All that substitutes of a work are two or three moments: Yet he attacks action “Led on by the whirlwind of actsI am nothing but an acolyte of time” and seeks to free the intellect “The only free mind is the one that, pure of all intimacy with beings te,ptation objects, plies its own vacuity”.

The one on “the Jew” was repellent and strange. He then began writing in French sxist book that, thanks to numerous intensive revisions, would eventually become the impressive A Short History of Decay — the first of a series of ten books in which Cioran would continue to explore his perennial obsessions, with a growing detachment that allies him equally tto the Greek sophists, the French moralists, and the oriental sages.

Exits poetry surpasses doubt, pointing exkst what we cannot know. Good volume to have by the bedside, when you have one of those nightmares that wake you up. George Orwell has already said everything that needed to be said about this strain of high-toned whining. He asks the temptatioj questions and sees the abyss fairly clearly but his outlook which is a dark, romantic, nationalistic and in love with vigor and action are the kinds of answers to our despairing situation that lead to bad responses namely fascism.
