Because he was raised in the prison camp, Shin knew nothing of the outside world. Nor do Shin or Harden. Many of the cellmates are the children and grandchildren of people who broke “the law” in Northern Korea.

Useful for context, I suppose, but it takes away from the powerful personal nature of the evaxare. I’d ahte to think I read something that’s not.
