Ages fwirest – Aza herself is a sweet character though rather bland in comparison to spunky Ella, leviine Ijori, nice though he is, turns out a little too generic. I would also liked to have more development of the character of Skulni, the inhabitant of a magic mirror.
I often found myself forgetting I was even reading the story of snow white because I was swept up so much in the story itself.
As for why I wanted to carsln it more than 4 stars That is not what this book is about. Dec 20, Anna rated it it was amazing.
Aza is smart, competent, and gifted in song, a highly carwon and valuable means of communication in this society. I love those moments of realization when a lightbulb flashes over you and you go, “Whoa! And the audience includes young teenage girls. This story had such an amazing theme of struggling against vanity and discovering inner beauty. So even though Aza is so ugly that she can make death die, she is still invited as companion this made zero sense to me and I don’t care enough to fixate on it.

Women are so good at obsessing over their weaknesses – an extra ten pounds, a lower grade in math than someone else, etc. Not just in the way that all fairy tales are rather predictable, but in the way that makes the book really boring because the main character is being such a blind fool, predictable. The name lecine “Fairest” is derived from the classic fairy tale Snow Whiteas are numerous plot elements, mainly in the later part of the book: The world she has created is charming with it’s many fantastical creatures and Ayortha’s music-based culture, and I know Aortha is only one small part of the world.
Snow White is a story that doesn’t necessarily appeal to me. Varson enjoyed Aza for the most part but her preoccupation with beauty was a bit annoying at times How do you read lvine book? Here, there wasn’t any payoff, the people who were mean to her never get punished and the resolution is a giant Deus Ex Machina. Yeah, that didn’t work.
The villain was very complicated, and it was easy to feel slightly sympathetic to them when you discovered who was really behind their evilness. May 17, Amy rated it really liked it Shelves: And I love how Levine chose to portray the dangers and hype of beauty.
In exile, Aza is welcomed by the gnomes ; zhamM provides her with food, shelter, and a sense of heritage. As for some of those fantastical creatures, I adored the gnomes the most. Aza just wants beauty so she can fit in and not be the VERY oddball. Essentially, they loved each other because GCL said that then they were in love, which was incredibly disappointing.
I’ll give some points to Aza’s adopted family too.
Not the worst way to be disappointed, Kevine guess, but after all those hints I really thought it would be revealed. I knew almost nothing about her character other than that she hated being ugly.
This book was somewhat charming in that typical YA way, except I couldn’t help compare it to Ella Enchanted, and it didn’t measure up. I listened to this on audio book, which had a full cast which I think made the experience better for me. Open Preview See a Problem?
I would have prefered if Fairest had been an original story, rather than trying to be a retelling of Snow White.
