Disgraced, he drifts away. Also by Elif Shafak. There are so many thoughts going around in my head about this marvellous book! At its heart the story is about immigrant life that shelters and holds on to the values and traditions of the native place: Police were investigating whether the teenager acted alone or if he was used as a pawn by other family members to carry out a collective murder plan.
She was an interesting young lady, and additional details about her life, as opposed to that of Adem, would have drawn me toward her character.
The narrative does get a honkur confusing at times as the stroy deals shaffak a lot of characters and goes back and forth between diffferent time spans, countries and characters and at times the story became quite disjounted for me as a result.
But Shafak is closer to Isabel Allende in spirit, confidence, and charm.
Her books have been translated into more than 40 languages and she was awarded the honorary distinction of Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters. Honoue I known sooner why Jamila was alone, her character would have pulled more empathy from me. I absolutely loved this book.
