In every lesson, the student will learn 8 to 12 kanji and then move on to the exercise section, which features one page of manga using all the characters learnt japanee that lesson; a page of different types of exercises; and a page with the correct answers, translations and a summary of the new drawing-compounds that will appear in the next lesson.
I can say I learned quite a bit from it.

Unfortunately, this intermediate language includes an arbitrary collection of abbreviations for grammatical jargon that doesn’t translate literally, so his rough translations are peppered with nonsense syntactic markers like “EP” and “DOP”.
Thanks for telling us about the problem. Pretty naive, but he wouldn’t be the first to underestimate the learning curve of this language.

After having gone through college and taking Japanese classes there, I went through the Genki series, and if yo I got this book back when I was self studying Japanese in high school. And as a final complaint, despite this being mangwland Second Edition, there are small mistakes throughout the book. Its clear jappanese and vivid examples help one naturally to get the “feel” for the basic patterns of Japanese grammar and at the same time to remember vocabulary associated with concrete situations.
I never bought the separate workbook, but I’m sure it would’ve been a nice addition to have alongside this book.

This book is a very useful tool for beginner learners looking to develop the necessary ski This was the first textbook I bought after I decided to start studying Japanese seriously.
I don’t think the book would hold up well for someone who’s a total beginner, but as a refresher book for some basic material, it’s not bad. Refresh and try again. I do like how the author stresses the importance of learning the kana as soon as possible, though it was rather annoying to see romaji still used throughout the book.
Japanese in MangaLand Series
The first seven of these cover all 80 kanji characters learnt by Japanese children in their first primary school year. Mqngaland was encouraging to find an approachable textbook at the time that mahgaland on a subject, apart from Japanese, that I was interested in–manga.
We are experiencing technical difficulties. The Workbook offers more than complementary activities, divided into six sections that enable students to practice writing hiragana, katakana and kanji, as well as to majgaland the vocabulary and grammar that were taught in the textbook itself. It has some usefulness in learning some informal forms of speech alongside classroom ones — including swear words! Sign me up to get more news about Nonfiction books.
