The plot itself kept me hooked. Sacrifice is told through the dual perspectives of Alera, the fallen Queen of a conquered kingdom, and Shaselle, a rebel whose father was murdered. Princess Alera is the main heroine. A girl whose family has been torn apart by war, and who is actively seeking retribution for her father’s death – sounds great, right?

One of the things I noted though was that there is a lot of description about the food, setting, clothes, etc. She also claims not to enjoy dressing up and wearing the gowns and jewellery that goes with her being a Princess, but the book is filled with descriptions of what she wears, in excruciating detail.
My favorite was definitely London. Lefacy had repaired our relationship, but the province was not ready to learn of it. Their occupation was a much detested piece of the story.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. And in the end, everyone couples together, living happily except Steldor who just becomes Captain of the Guard. Alera Queen of a fallen kingdom, secretly in love with the enemy. As for the rest of you, the city is in dire need of repairs, and you will be assigned to that task, working with the Cokyrians who are managing the effort.
Sacrifice wasn’t a bad book, but it didn’t live up to the caliber the first two novels had set. Sobbed my little face off. Because why exactly would I introduce you to the last book in a series I’ve never even mentioned before? I have mixed feelings on Legacy — on the one hand, the story has much potential and piqued my curiosity for the world that Carla Kluver created; on the other hand, I did not particularly care for the characters themselves.
Legacy by Cayla Kluver (3 star ratings)
The other slips through the war-torn streets, seeking retribution for her family’s tragedy, following whispers of insurgency. Cannan and Steldor, so alike with their formidable builds, dark eyes and nearly black hair, although Steldor’s features were otherwise those of his beautiful mother; Galen, slightly lighter in coloring than his best friend, his generally more forgiving nature eradicated by the war; and Halias, whose twinkling blue eyes seemed harder and whose sandy hair was cut short, physical signs of the loss of his easygoing manner.
Want to Read saving…. I found Alera to be a great character she was strong, intelligent and a good leader. Ok, let’s back up. It was frustrating, but I guess considering the patriarchal society she lives in she was actually viewed as quite the rebel.
Two were the biggest shortcomings of this book in my opinion, the first being the author’s tactics of telling instead of showing. And I know London was in his late 30s, maybe closer to 40s, but he always felt like a protective older brother to her.
The author fell back into the over descriptive trance from the first book. Some characters didn’t quite get what I thought was coming to them, but others certainly did. Suddenly, Alera had the renewed support of the Hytanicans she had been arguing with and siding against for the whole book, and she decided to offer the Cokyrians peace.
I liked this book but didn’t love it. However I have to say that where Cayla Kluver leaves the story? Narian is just so wise and smart beyond his years.
Alera Queen of a fallen kingdom, secretly in love with the enemy. Steldor is kind of like that idiot frat guy who knows he’s gorgeous, but that when you actually get to know him he has some hidden depth. Alera is Alera she tries really hard to help her country become stable under the Corkian rule.
But I’ll take it. The character are all great. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. I believe this is a great first offering from a debuting writer who is so young. As for the romantic male intrigues, I was torn between the perfectly egotistical Lord Steldor and the mysterious Narian. And when rebellion finally does happen, Alera spends the whole time in her bedchamber, and by the next chapter, the rebellion has been subdued and we Readers are subjected to yet another dinner – this time with one of Shaselle’s suitors.
And I hadn’t expected the book to end the way it did, but it was so anti-climatic that Legaacy had expected to be a bit more disappointed. So, she goes out in the ldgacy alone, while soldiers are gutting each other and burning houses and cutting heads and as in all wars though not lgacy here raping women. Narian is charming, sweet and really kind to Alera and I’m really glad that things are working out really well for both of them in this book.
